Bien qu'il ne soit pas aussi saisissant que Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets est plus unifié, à la fois thématiquement et musicalement. Tout sur cet opus semble avoir été dynamité pour atteindre des proportions épiques et le groupe semble mieux contrôler sa direction. Par contre, ce n'est pas en lisant les paroles que vous vous en apercevrez : presque chaque chanson sur Master of Puppets traite, d'une façon ou d'une autre, de la peur de l'impuissance. Parfois elles parlent de l'autorité hypocrite, parfois des désirs primaires, incontrôlables de l'homme et, à la façon de H.P. Lovecraft, parfois de monstres. Pourtant, en démarrant et en clôturant l'album par deux tranches de black metal trash ("Battery" et "Damage, Inc."), le groupe s'impose triomphant avec une force pure -- de son, de détermination, d'animosité.

Bien qu'il ne soit pas aussi saisissant que Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets est plus unifié, à la fois thématiquement et musicalement. Tout sur cet opus semble avoir été dynamité pour atteindre des proportions épiques et le groupe semble mieux contrôler sa direction. Par contre, ce n'est pas en lisant les paroles que vous vous en apercevrez : presque chaque chanson sur Master of Puppets traite, d'une façon ou d'une autre, de la peur de l'impuissance. Parfois elles parlent de l'autorité hypocrite, parfois des désirs primaires, incontrôlables de l'homme et, à la façon de H.P. Lovecraft, parfois de monstres. Pourtant, en démarrant et en clôturant l'album par deux tranches de black metal trash ("Battery" et "Damage, Inc."), le groupe s'impose triomphant avec une force pure -- de son, de détermination, d'animosité.
